I’m changing.
I’m growing… a lot.
And as such, my focus is changing. You know, I used to find places where I could inspire hope. And, to a degree, I’m still a cheerleader. With that said, I’ve also grown past simply telling you that you could be better, that you could step up, that you could live a life beyond the one you’re living.
I’m The Breakthrough Success Coach
And while it is still true that you can live a life beyond the one you’re currently living, my approach is different. And you may need to hear this.
The level of excellence in your life is up to you. What you don’t need to hear anymore is that you have a voice in the world. You’ve followed my work long enough to know that. You may or may not yet be able to speak up in all the places that you want or need, and yet you know that you can.
Here’s where things get interesting – your state of mind affects the amount of productivity you have each day, your presence at home, and your impact in the community. That’s right, MindState Matters. That’s different from Mindset. Don’t get me wrong, there was some excellent prior research defining “fixed” vs. “growth” types of mindset. That’s all still valid. What I’m saying is that MindState might just be a little more fluid than a box of one or the other.
Your MindState in any given moment tells you to step up or to screw around. Excellence is a habit. Stepping in when you don’t want to do so takes courage and yet, if you think about it, you’ve had about two-and-a-half years of courage lessons, given that the pandemic told us to step into the unknown every single day.
Think back on how you handled the last two and a half years. I’m guessing you could be kind of proud of yourself for acknowledging that you kept going, even when things got hard. And you’re here, reading your weekly Wednesdays With Wayne in order to fuel your MindState.
The truth, because that’s what you came here for, is that you don’t need hope. I’m not saying, “abandon hope, all ye who enter here.” I’ll save that for the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disney.
Nope, I’m saying something stronger:
Hope Is Not A Strategy
What you want and need moving forward is to pay attention to the things that level you up in your life. You have some areas of excellence. Just notice how you got there with those – whether that’s cooking, golf, driving, selling, or researching – you’ve got your areas of excellence.
What’s next then is to notice what in your life isn’t excellent.
Where can you welcome further excellence? Is it in clearing clutter, fine tuning a skill like language or a musical instrument, trading in that car, or putting more of yourself in your relationships at home, at work, and in the world?
You had some ideas percolate as you read that.
Start there.
