Independence, Interdependence, and You

wednesdays with wayne Jul 03, 2024

A little history mixed with inspiration for you today. Celebrations are great. We just get a little arbitrary in what we choose to celebrate and why. It’s funny, actually.

In the U.S., we’re approaching the celebration of our “Independence” Day. This was the day that the Declaration of Independence was signed.

Uhh, except that it wasn’t really signed until August 2nd, 1776. So, there’s that.

And like a toddler stamping her foot yelling “I Do It!,” the United States wasn’t really a country, and wouldn’t be for another 13 years when the constitution (drafted in 1787) was ratified fully in 1789. Just because we said we wanted independence didn’t mean we were suddenly granted it. There was a war that waged on for years after our foot-stomping. There were papers to suggest how to organize. And many, many people didn’t want it. British rule, the way things had always been, was just fine.

We, the United States, couldn’t have actually become a country without the support of other countries. France, for example, was instrumental. And without France, we would have lost the battle and that struggle.

BEYOND THE HISTORY LESSON, ALL OF THIS IS REFLECTIVE OF

                 THE HUMAN AND ORGANIZATIONAL JOURNEY

                                        ๐Ÿกช YOUR JOURNEY ๐Ÿกจ

As an individual growing from child to adult or a growing organization

  • I have an idea!
  • Great, let’s make a plan!
  • Awesome, we need some people and a few other resources to make it work.
  • There are people that don’t want to see us succeed.
  • There are people that want to keep things as they used to be.
  • There are people that DO want us to succeed.
  • We need help and support to make it all happen.

Are we, any of us, ever truly independent? Even if you choose to live off the grid (and miss out on Wednesdays With Wayne blogs), you still had to get your foundation for off-the-grid living from someone, somewhere.

We are interdependent. We need each other to succeed. We need people with greater experience and expertise in various areas. We need resources. And we need a really, really strong vision that pretty much anyone can get behind.

And sometimes, it takes a little longer than you’d want. Stay in it. Build from your values. Beware of distractions. While the Declaration of Independence is dated July 4, 1776, the United States didn’t become a sovereign nation until January 14, 1784. I created a vision for myself and my business a few years back. Since then, it’s been a path of creating the right events with the right people in support of my vision to bring it together.

While you might have learned some history that made you go “hmmmmmm,” I’m hoping you’re also looking at your life with the understanding that right now, you can start a new vision for your independence based on interdependence.

What do you want?

Who or what do you need to make the next step happen? A step at a time. What’s your best next move?

Keep making your magic. See you here next week.
