I love this topic so much. It’s what reawakens the vital spirit in each of us. When we step back into Purpose and realize we not only can, we should be pursuing our passions. (For those of you who have been following my work, you know that I very rarely choose to use the word “should.” It very much belongs here! You should pursue your passions!)
But… but… but… what about the responsibilities?
No one said to stop being responsible. The key here is to reawaken to listening to the things that are actually calling you.
You Need To Listen To The Whispers
Your Passion Is Reflecting Your Purpose
What Is Calling To You – “…over here!”
Over here…!
You’re in your Purpose as a human when you follow the calling, the whisper of “over here.” It’s not just the “want” or clicking “add to cart” because something is on sale. It could be pursuing guitar. I could be becoming a certified yoga instructor and not giving up your private practice. It could be buying the Big Green Egg barbecue. It could be stepping away from that career you wanted and loved, but now find it’s become an anchor.
Each of those stories come from my clients’ histories. They’re real. And my clients are pretty happy now. They didn’t give up their drive or control in their lives. They didn’t forsake their responsibilities. In fact, pursuing their passion only enhanced their life’s fulfillment. They became better at being present at home. They became more productive at work, work they love. They found themselves less distracted.
They stepped deeper into their true selves by listening to the whispers.
The whispers change over time. Your values, what you really want for your life changes. I created my Exponential Success Summit because so many high achievers get so lost in the hunt for the next great conquest that they lose track of what matters to them at the time.
Take a moment. Really, right now, just take a moment. Look up, gaze off, breathe and fill in this blank: If I could break away the time and had the bandwidth, I’d _______________.
What is it?
Would you buy something for yourself? A new car, boat, home, or something “frivolous” that you tell yourself you don’t really need? (I bought a new attaché – a briefcase – because I saw it and couldn’t stop thinking about it. It’s weird, but I feel different about myself when I carry it.)
Would you change your job or the way you’re in your job?
Would you pursue a different way to be in your relationships?
Would you travel? Or maybe you’d learn a new language or learn to play an instrument?
It’s possible, you might learn a new skill so you could be more efficient in the way you do your work.
The whispers come as pangs of “I’d really like…” and we cut them off, we quiet them with “but…”
Stop. The whispers tell you what to do. It’s how you realize you’re IN your purpose so you can stop trying to FIND your purpose.
The things that aren’t whispers are those that say, “No. Don’t do that. You shouldn’t.” They’re the old stories that keep you on a “reasonable” or “realistic” path. Yes, you have responsibilities. What if you explored?
What if there were a way?
One of my clients bought a Bentley. A Bentley!!! That’s so unreasonable and ridiculous, right? Nope. He’s becoming the person who deserves to live that way. He’s changed the way he thinks about himself and the way he engages in the world.
What about you?
What’s calling you? “…over here!”
Listen.
Explore.
Enjoy.
This is your life.
It’s time.
Keep making your magic!
I’ll see you here next week and I’d really, really encourage you to check out my signature Exponential Success Summit if any of this speaks to you. Two days of diving deep will do you a world of good.
