Uncertainty, Resilience, and Courage (Tolerating uncertainty)

Think back a few years. Pretend it’s 2019. 

Someone is telling you that every morning when you wake up, there will be new rules. There will be statistics that make you wonder what’s real. Basic staples disappear, chicken and toilet paper (of all things) are hoarded. Those must be the things that will keep us alive… surviving. 

 

Surviving. Is that the best we can hope for?

We’re here to thrive and mere survival means we’re in distress.
                   Survival, in itself, is a dis-eased state.

 

What were we taught every single day extended beyond survival.

We learned things about ourselves. During difficult times, we are – each of us is – resilient. We are flexible and we know how to pivot. We didn’t know we needed to do so. Yet, post-pandemic, what we have gained is the knowledge that there’s more. There’s so much more for each of us. 

 

You’re resilient.

You’re courageous. Every single day, you awakened to an uncertainty, and you took on the day anyway.

 

Uncertainty brings stress. Globally, we saw rates of mental health issues rise. And you might still be feeling something. If you need some help, please know you’re not alone and get the medical and psychological help you need. 

 

The point today is for you to remember how resilient you are.

The point today is for you to remember how courageous you are.

You got through it all in the face of great uncertainty.

 

Isn’t that life, though? 

That’s your career. That’s your relationship. The certainty you have resides in who you are and how you are. 

 

Having found your values coming out of the pandemic; you get to redefine success. 

 

What do you want?

What will you bring?

How will you bounce back when things go a different way than planned? 

🡪 The good news is that you don’t need to know HOW you will bounce back, just hold onto the certainty (in the midst of so much uncertainty) THAT YOU WILL bounce back!

 

You’ve got this next phase because you’ve already shown that you can. Success then, is a given!
