Ahhhh, a new year and fresh beginnings!
You know you can experience that feeling every moment of every day, right? It’s just a decision to start anew.
Start anew, anytime! (Psssssttttt!!!! How about NOW??)
That means, think about your life as if you were just plopped into this time and space. None of your past history matters (yes, it shaped you, but it doesn’t hold you hostage or stop you from becoming more). If you were a time traveler and landed in your life today, what would you want to have around you? What life would you build?
Pay attention to the resistance.
When you think about building the life you want, do your thoughts go to “yeah, but…” this person in my life wouldn’t like it? Or maybe your thoughts swing to “I can’t do – or have – that thing. It’s out of reach. It’s selfish. It’s….” whatever you tell yourself.
Pay attention to the stories – and excuses – you’ve saddled yourself with. You’re going to need to confront these head on at some point.
For now, simply consider this: What if your life were easy? I mean, what if everything lined up the way you wanted and/or needed it to? Would you be willing to do the work to become the person who actually could have the things you said you wanted?
There’s work. It doesn’t have to be hard. The old adage that “hard work pays off” implies that in order to have any kind of payoff, you have to work hard. The truth is that FOCUSED work pays off. Don’t be busy being busy. Do the things that need to be done. And it doesn’t have to be hard.
It might take longer than you want. That’s a mindset issue around lack. Applying urgency to a personal situation is fear-based. It’s not uncommon to have the feeling that you might miss out on something. The Truth is that you might. The other part of that truth is that you probably need to grow in some area so what you miss out on isn’t or wasn’t actually available to you in the moment.
Consider this: When you’re just starting out with weightlifting, you might pick up a two-pound dumbbell. Doing multiple reps with two pounds is something you’ll feel. It may or may not be “hard” work per se, but it is work. Somehow, you graduate to using 5lb weights, then 10lb weights. And before long, you look at those two-pound weights and think about how light they are. Doing any reps with them isn’t work at all.
If you keep going in your weight training, you’ll feel the same about the 5lb and 10lb weights. Using them doesn’t feel like work.
The weights haven’t changed.
The challenge of using them hasn’t changed.
When you get stronger, the original challenge doesn’t feel like work anymore.
And that’s the key.
Lean into the places you need to do the work in order to become the person who can easily have the people or things you want in your life.
What do you want this year? Next year? Three years out?
What would you really treasure?
Who do you need to become to have those things?
Someone who is better at business, in relationships, or communication? Someone who isn’t afraid to invest time, money, and energetic resources in yourself?
Get clear. The life you want really can be easy.
Happy New Year!
Keep making your magic!
